Netflix is making a name for itself as an exponent of compelling foreign content. On the heels of the German war film All Quiet on the Western Front, and the multi-lingual mystery series 1899, the streaming giant is set to release yet another exciting foreign film.
From Norwegian director Roar Uthaug – director of disaster film The Wave and the 2018’s Tomb Raider – comes Troll, an epic action-adventure monster movie released exclusive on Netflix. When an explosion awakens an ancient troll after being trapped deep inside a Norwegian mountain for a thousand years, officials appoint a fearless paleontologist to prevent it from wreaking deadly havoc.
As the giant creature fast approaches Oslo destroying everything in its path, a ragtag group of heroes must unite and do everything in their power to exterminate the deadly being, once thought to exist only in Norse folklore. Troll stars critically acclaimed Norwegian actress Ine Marie Wilmann in the lead role as Nora, alongside Kim Falck as advisor to the prime minister Andreas and Eddie the Eagle actor Mads Sjøgård Pettersen as Norwegian army captain Kristoffer.

The film’s trailer promises all the hallmarks of a classic monster movie, akin to the likes of King Kong and Godzilla, as the appearance of a mythical creature shatters everything the protagonists thought they knew about the world. The little information that has been revealed suggests Troll will also have its fair share of humour, as the group of heroes from different parts of society come together to prevent Oslo’s destruction.
