"Elio" is another charming family movie from Disney and Pixar, one that didn't quite attract the audience I'd hoped.
The movie sees alien-obsessed 11-year-old Elio Solis (Yonas Kibreab) being beamed up after being mistakenly identified as Earth's ambassador by a coalition of alien representatives from the "Communiverse." Elio subsequently ends up tangled up in an intergalactic incident.
Although it reviewed well — "Elio" is currently rated 83% from critics and 90% from fans on Rotten Tomatoes — it wasn't exactly a box office success.
That's a crying shame; as someone who did see "Elio," it's easily one of my favorite Pixar releases in recent memory. It deserves to find more fans, and you can read my full "Elio" review to find out why.
If you've been waiting to watch the new family movie, we've just learned when "Elio" will finally come to Disney Plus. You can find the "Elio" streaming date below.
When is 'Elio' coming to streaming?
"Elio" arrived on Premium Video-On-Demand storefronts like Prime Video and Apple in mid-August, but Disney's just revealed when it's coming to the House of Mouse's own streaming service.
Per an announcement made on September 10, we now know that "Elio" will be available to stream on Disney Plus from Wednesday, September 2025.
If you'd prefer to own the movie yourself, as of September 9, you can also pick up "Elio" on Blu-ray and other home formats (4K UHD, and DVD) now.
That's only slightly later than my estimation, wherein I guessed "Elio" would land on the streamer on September 24, 2025.
That was based on the fact that we typically wait around three months for Disney movies to come to Disney Plus.
For example, 2024's megahit "Inside Out 2" hit theaters on June 14 and started streaming on September 25, while "Elemental" dropped on September 13, 2023, after hitting theaters on June 16.
