When is Dublin's Pride festival 2019 taking place and what events are on?

Dublin's 2019 Pride festival is drawing closer, with the nine-day festival kicking off on the 20 of June.

The festival, which celebrates the stance taken against discrimination of members of the LGBTQ+ community, saw over 60,000 people march in the capital in 2018.

The main part of the festival is the parade, which takes place on Saturday June 29 at 1:00pm. It will assemble at O'Connell street and finish up at Merrion Square.

As well as this, it has been confirmed that uniformed gardai will march with the parade for the first time this year.

The parade itself is one of the biggest free events in the country, and it is expected more than 7,000 people from over 150 different groups with floats and marching bands and colourful costumes will lead out the Parade.

There is an event on each of the nine days of the festival, with 'Epic LGBTQ+ Tours' the kicking off the celebrations at 3:00pm on June 20th, before it is eventually wrapped up with the parade on the 29 of June, with numerous other gigs taking place that day.

The annual 5k 'Dublin Pride Run' will take place on Friday, June 21 in Phoenix Park

On June 22, a special tour of Kilmainham Gaol focusing on the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender prisoners associated with the building will take place.

That's not all though, there is plenty of fantastic events on over the festival, including: an evening with David Norris, Recognising and Challenging Sexual Harassment of LGBTQIA+ Women, and the FUR-Dublin Bear Pride parade, amongst many others.
