When is Conversations with Friends becoming a TV show? Release date and cast for Sally Rooney's novel

Conversations with Friends was the debut novel from Irish author Sally Rooney in 2017 and its success means that is now being adapted into a TV series. The story follows two young Dublin college students who become involved with an older married couple in the city's literary scene.

Rooney's fictional novel received critical acclaim after publication and her second novel, Normal People, saw similar success after it was released in 2018. That novel has already been adapted into a popular BBC drama series which aired in 2020.

Most recently, the author released Beautiful World, Where Are You in 2021. Now, fans are awaiting the TV adaptation of the story that saw the rise of the beloved author's career.

When will Conversations with Friends be released?

The TV adaptation of Sally Rooney's debut novel is set to be released on Sunday May 15, 2022. The 12-part series will appear on BBC One, BBC Three and BBC iPlayer for UK viewers as well as the streaming service Hulu for U.S. audiences.

With the story set in Ireland, production for the show occurred in Dublin and Belfast back in 2021. Each episode of the show will be 30 minutes long, following the same episode length of Normal People.

Who is in the cast for Conversations with Friends?

Taylor Swift's boyfriend Joe Alwyn (The Favourite) will play the husband, Nick, in the series. In the story he has a secret affair with 21-year-old college student Frances, who will be played by newcomer Alison Oliver.

Playing the role of the writer and Nick's wife, Melissa, will be Jemima Kirke (Sex Education, Girls). While Saha Lane (American Honey) will play the other main role of college student Bobbi, who is Frances' ex-girlfriend and best friend.

The casting was announced in February 2021. Speaking about the casting process at the TCA panel, executive producer and director Lenny Abrahamson said: "When you’re casting a quartet that’s so tightly bound together, every thought about one character informs all the other characters."
