When does Britain's Got Talent 2022 return? Judges and who won BGT 2020

It's been two years since it was on screen, but Britain's Got Talent has finally returned - much to the relief of dedicated fans.

ITV bosses were forced to cancel last year's series as the Covid pandemic and numerous lockdowns made it nearly impossible to audition acts.

In 2020, the semi-finals and final were delayed until the autumn and pre-recorded, with Simon Cowell replaced by Ashley Banjo after the media mogul suffered a nasty accident in the US.

This year, Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will be back at the helm as they search for brand new talent to bring some needed smiles to the nation's faces.

From golden buzzers and strange acts to tearjerker moments, viewers can expect it all from the 15th series...

When does BGT 2022 start?

Britain's Got Talent will be returning on Saturday April 16.

Ant and Dec announced the news on Twitter in a special video, with Dec saying: "It's been such a long time since Britain's Got Talent's been on our screens."

"But what we're about to tell you... no, no, no! It's very exciting news," Ant insisted.

Dec declared: "BGT is back on the 16th April!"

Fans reacted in excitement on Twitter, with one writing: "Whooo can’t wait."

While another gushed: "I'm so so so damn excited welcome back!!"

A third wrote: "Yes! Bring it on!!"

Who are the Britain's Got Talent judges?

Amanda Holden, Simon Cowell, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon will be returning for their ninth year on the show together.

Simon, 62, appeared on the show in 2020 during the auditions stage, but Diversity's Ashley was forced to step in last minute for the semi-finals and final, which were delayed until the autumn.

The Mirror revealed that Simon needed six hours of emergency surgery after breaking his back - in an accident in Malibu which could have left him paralysed.

A close friend told that although his back was broken in several places and it was very serious, he narrowly missed breaking his spinal cord “by a centimetre” which would may have meant he was unable to walk again.

As a result, Simon was unable to fly from the US to the UK.

Who won Britain's Got Talent 2020?

Comic singer Jon Courtenay was crowned the BGT champion in 2020.

Jon beat nine other acts, with choir Sign Along With Us coming in second and comedian and entertainer Steve Royle third.

Asked how he felt, Jon stammered: "I was trying not to think about it, because I am really bad at hiding disappointment.

"This morning for the first time, this sounds really dramatic, but I woke up with an idea for a song for the Royal Variety performance.

"I wrote it down and I tried not to think of it as a sign, because that would be too much pressure, but... Just amazing, I can't actually believe it," he gushed.

"Thank you, this has changed my life and my family's life," he added.
