When do the clocks go forward as Spring 2022 is right round the corner

While there is still a nip in the air, March brings with it daffodils for St David's Day and spring.

According to the meteorological calendar, spring arrives on March 20 and Scotland can start to wave goodbye to the dark winter evenings.

When the clocks go forward, it is known as British Summer Time, or Daylight Saving Time and Brits can leave behind Greenwich Mean time until later autumn.

As Manchester Evening News reports, the clocks always change on the last weekend of March each year in the UK, so this year that falls on Sunday, March 27.

While we can all enjoy more daylight in the evening, at 1pm, the clocks jump forward by one hour so we tragically lose an hour in bed.

Anyone with a smartphone doesn't need to change the time, it does it automatically. But remember to change any clocks in the house or in the car.

Brits have been changing their clocks since 1916 when the first Daylight Saving Bill was brought forward to the House of Commons.

Originally, the idea came about in 1784 when Benjamin Franklin first campaigned to change the clocks during his time in Paris, arguing that time is money and Parisians should enjoy an extra hour of daylight.

But nothing came of Franklin's campaigning and the idea didn't resurface until 1895.

George Vernon Hudson, a New Zealand scientist proposed to his government that the clocks should go forward by two hours every summer.

But Hudson was unsuccessful in his campaign, and as BBC reports, a builder named William Willett fought to get the clocks changed after being annoyed his golf games were cut short due to the sun setting.

Willet sadly died of influenza in 1915, but a year later his idea was passed through Parliament.

When do the clocks go back again?

After summer, the clocks will go back again — but that won't happen until autumn.

If you’re unsure as to which way the clocks go during which season, an easy way to remember it is that you ‘spring forward and fall back'.
