Here's all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

Chilwell deal close

Chelsea are close to signing Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell.

The Blues have been in search of a new left-back for some time and now appear to have found their man in the shape of the England international.

According to The Athletic, an agreement over a £50m deal is in place which means the transfer is almost completed, with the defender having now undergone medical tests.

He has undergone medical checks on heel injury in London and is set for another three weeks on the sidelines.

Pre-season training

Chelsea's first-team players have been back at Cobham for the start of their pre-season training ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

The Blues finished their 2019/20 campaign on August 8 with the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, and the players are already preparing for the next season.

Frank Lampard's players will be going through a COVID-19 test as part of the standard precautions ahead of returning to action.

Chelsea told to sign Thiago Silva

Earlier this week, The Telegraph claimed that Chelsea were mulling over the prospect of signing Thiago Silva on a free transfer this summer.

Should the Blues make the decision to pursue a move for the 35-year-old it would certainly get the seal of approval from former boss Carlo Ancelotti, who is a big fan of the Brazilian.

"When Thiago gets onto the pitch, he controls the defence with his great personality and character," Ancelotti said in 2015. "He is the boss of the defence.

"Thiago is a leader, technically capable of doing extraordinary things in the two phases of the game.

"With him, things at the back are simple and efficient.

"His speed, his great ability to recover the ball, the way he reads the game, all combined with an extraordinary leap in aerial duels makes him one of the best defenders in the world."
