'Wheelie dog' drags himself around like a seal after being hit by car

A golden retriever who has to drag himself around after losing control of his back legs is desperately searching for a home.

Two-year-old Happy can no longer use his back legs after being hit by a car - and has been struggling to adapt to life as a 'wheelie dog '.

Although he is happy to carry his own weight around a house and a private garden, Happy will need a wheelchair for walks.

He has currently under Miracle’s Mission's care in Romania but is ready to travel to the UK when an adopter is found.

Established in 2015 by Victoria Bryceson, Miracle’s Mission is a UK registered animal welfare charity who work predominantly in the UK, Borneo and Egypt.

The charity is on a "mission to provide a place of safety for animals in danger, to educate on the needs of neutering both pets and strays and to neuter stray dogs and cats to prevent the birth of more animals onto the streets".

Victoria said: "Happy is a really lovely boy who was hit by a car causing him to lose the use of his back legs.

"It has taken him a while to adjust to his new normal after being an active dog before his accident."

Happy is incontinent and will require bladder expression three to four times a day - but Miracle’s Mission is able to provide training for this.

"Happy needs a garden with grass so that he is able to drag himself without developing sores," said Victoria

"He is a large dog so any potential foster carers or adopters will need to be able to lift him."

Although he has been friendly to the other dogs in his current foster home, Harry has been known to have shown some aggressive behaviour in his previous home

Victoria added: "He could live with a calm and friendly female dog and any foster carer or adopter would need to have space to facilitate slow introductions. He is not cat or child tested.

"He is simply searching for a loving home that can accept and love a dog who is incontinent and uses wheels on walks."
