Sarah Jessica Parker shares emotional post after And Just Like That... announces series ending

Sarah Jessica Parker has shared an emotional statement about Sex and the City’s (SATC) iconic spinoff, And Just Like That..., ending after three seasons.

The actor, 60, shared a lengthy tribute to her character, sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw, on Instagram Friday, hours after the And Just Like That...showrunner, Michael Patrick King, announced the series was ending.

“She crossed streets, avenues, rubicons, so it seemed,” Parker said in the clip, which featured a montage of photos of carried. “She broke hearts, heels, habits. She loved, lost, won, tripped, leaped, fell short, and into puddles. Aged, got wiser. She has made the hardest, worst, and best decisions. Traveled near and far, for the new, the vintage, friends, and love.”

She continued to pay tribute to Carrie’s iconic moments on SATC and And Just Like That...

“Changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City,” Parker added. “She had dates, drinks, boyfriends, a husband, and truly great loves and romances. She hailed cabs, she ran in heels, and danced with Stanford. She told the truth and she lied. She typed, wondered, wrote, published, grieved, forgave. Got stood up, stood strong, stood out.”

Parker also acknowledged how Carrie shaped her career, noting that the character had “dominated [her] professional heartbeat for 27 years.”

“I think I have loved her most of all. I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned, and rooted for her,” the actor added. “The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore, the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt.”

She concluded by expressing her gratitude to the fans of the franchise and her colleagues on the SATC spinoff.

And Just Like That...was all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us. I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget. The whole thing. Thank you all,” she wrote. “I love you so.”

Her statement came after the program’s showrunner, writer, and director, Michael Patrick King, announced the show was ending.

“And just like that…the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and The City universe is coming to an end,” he wrote in a statement Friday, posted on And Just Like That’s...Instagram. “While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That..season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.”

He said he spoke with the show’s entire team, including executive producer Parker, about concluding the program at the end of this season, which is currently premiering on HBO Max.

“Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12,” King added. “SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the world ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season.”

“It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over the many years,” King concluded.

And Just Like That...features the return of sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw, who was the star of the iconic 1990s show. In the first season of And Just Like That... Carrie is navigating her grief after the death of her husband Big (portrayed by Chris Noth), who was her on-and-off boyfriend throughout Sex and the City.

The sequel also sees the return of Carrie’s two best friends, Miranda Hobbes (portrayed by Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York-Goldenblatt (portrayed by Kristin Davis). However, the fourth member of the friend group, Samantha Jones, portrayed by Kim Cattrall, is not in the spinoff.

Some of the episodes of And Just Like That’s...third season have prompted different reactions from fans.

In last week’s episode, which aired on July 24, former flames Carrie and Aidan (John Corbett) — who in season two reignited their once-passionate romance from decades past — were splitting up again. Aidan had quickly become suspicious of Carrie’s downstairs neighbor, hunky British writer Duncan (Jonathan Cake). That prompted him to later admit to Carrie he had “trust issues” with her when she was around other men. As a result, the pair had a huge spat on the streets of New York City and broke up.

Fans were quick to celebrate the breakup, sharing their excitement on social media.

“Carrie Bradshaw finally did the thing!” one wrote on X, while a second added: “Carrie finally dumped Aidan.”

“Yassss Carrie F***ING Bradshaw is back!!!!” a third declared.

The final episode of And Just Like That...is set to premiere on August 14 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max.
