WhatsApp and Facebook DOWN: Apps crash for users across the UK

UPDATE: Facebook and WhatsApp are now back up and running

It’s the go-to messaging service for many people, but WhatsApp crashed this morning.

According to DownDetector the problems started at around 10:30am BST, and affected users across the UK and parts of Europe.

The reason for the crash remains unclear, although 64% of those who reported an issue said it was with connection, while 33% said they weren't receiving messages.

For a short period of time the problems have extended to Facebook, which also owns WhatsApp.

According to Facebook's Developers site, there was a 'Major Outage' for developers across the UK.

While WhatsApp and Facebook are yet to comment on the outage, many frustrated users took to Twitter to vent their concerns.

One user said: "WhatsApp is always down when I need it most," while another added: "WhatsApp is down again!"

Social media expert, Matt Navarra, tweeted a screenshot of the Facebook Developers dashboard, writing: "Facebook is currently reporting a major outage across multiple services."

Meanwhile, another joked: "Imagine if Twitter went down, how would I know when WhatsApp, Snapchat & Instagram are down?"

Mirror Online has contacted WhatsApp and Facebook for comment.
