Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu is set to be available in a cut price January transfer window deal as Nottingham Forest look to revive their season.
Atsu was widely understood to be an option for Forest as they made 15 signings since the end of last season.
In the end, the Reds signed Anthony Knockaert on loan, while a deal for Kamil Grosicki fell through. With Knockaert's loan deal from Fulham only running until January, Forest boss Chris Hughton could have to look elsewhere.
Newcastle are likely to be keen to sell after Christmas, with Chronicle Live saying Atsu could cost up to £1.5m, although given his status at the club, a lesser offer could suffice.
"He is out of contract in the summer and the fact he was omitted from the club’s Premier League squad means he will have played very little football by the time January comes around," they said.
"The club could would be wise to take whatever is offered for the winger, with any deal also removing his wages from the books."
Forest currently have four first team wingers in Knockaert, Joe Lolley, Sammy Ameobi and Alex Mighten.
England Under-19 winger Mighten has not featured under Hughton thus far, although the manager is a fan of the player's potential. Mighten has also been injured.
The fact Forest were so keen to sign Grosicki, suggests they could want wingers in January, especially if they fail to climb the table between now and then.
