What Xherdan Shaqiri did after Barcelona game - and why Liverpool fans will love it

It has swiftly become the most regularly played moment in Liverpool's recent history.

And Xherdan Shaqiri admits he is no different to any of the countless Reds fans who can't stop watching the remarkable Champions League semi-final comeback against Barcelona.

Shaqiri was in the starting line-up as Jurgen Klopp's side wiped out a 3-0 first leg deficit to beat the Spaniards 4-0 and progress to their ninth European Cup final.

The Switzerland international created the third goal for Gini Wijnaldum on a night many already regard as the greatest in Anfield's long history.

And Shaqiri reveals the emotion of that occasion has intensified efforts to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League showpiece in Madrid on June 1.

"It was really incredible what we achieved," said the Swiss international. "It was just amazing. I have watched the game many times again!

"It was a nice feeling to be involved in a game like that. That (kind of game) doesn't happen every day and we will never forget this game.

"The stadium was that loud at the end, it was incredible. The fans deserved that and I hope we can give them the Champions League title."

Shaqiri is part of a 26-man Liverpool squad in Marbella for a week-long training camp ahead of the Champions League final, and was on Jordan Henderson's team that won a six-a-side tournament on Tuesday.

Liverpool's players were given five days off before jetting out to Spain, and the Swiss winger admits the break was essential.

"It was very important," said Shaqiri, speaking to liverpoolfc.com. "Everybody went somewhere with their families and everybody is looking very fresh, in our minds too.

"We are training hard and are in good shape. It is a big final ahead of us and we have to train hard and intense to be ready for the game.

"We feel very good. We are training very hard and preparing every second for this game.

"Obviously mentally we’re also slowly, slowly thinking about the game and preparing is the most important thing in being ready for this important game.

"It's very important to stay positive because we played a very very good season and we want to try to win a trophy."
