What went on in London this week: Andrew Scott's endless summer, and a heartfelt tribute from Oasis

Londoner’s Diary

Andrew Scott is having quite the summer. The actor said that after working on “f***ing loads of things” last year, he’s made a vow to take it easy this silly season. Scott has been spotted gallivanting around Glastonbury and Wimbledon, as well as going to various glitzy events in London.

Last week, Cultured magazine held a dinner at The Twenty Two members’ club in Mayfair to toast Scott, who is the cover star of their summer issue. The guest list included fellow Irish star, writer Emma Dabiri, actor Tom Felton, Mad Men writer Kater Gordon, artist Rachel Jones and designers Harris Reed and Conner Ives.

The night was fuelled by margaritas and fried artichoke salad, before Scott signed copies of the magazine cover for guests to take home. For the fashion commentator Camille Charriere, he included a personalised note: “Thank you for agreeing to be my wife, I’m sorry they didn’t sit us together at the reception.” And from a hot priest, no less!

Oasis fever sets in

They may be described as working class heroes, but that doesn’t mean the Gallagher brothers don’t have a taste for the finer things in life. At the first show in Oasis’s seven night run at Wembley, Noel Gallagher dedicated Don’t Look Back in Anger to the Chiltern Firehouse, the ultra exclusive celebrity haunt which has been closed down since a fire ripped through the building in February.

“In London there are many tragedies, from the Great Fire, the Blitz,” Noel told Wembley. “And this year a tragedy happened that was bigger than all of them combined, which was my favourite bar the Firehouse f***ing burned down.”

Among the 90,000-strong crowd were some familiar faces. Despite once being called a “bastard” who has “not been in one good film in his entire career,” Tom Cruise bagged several tickets to the show, bringing along his rumoured girlfriend Ana de Armas, actress Sienna Miller and DJ Goldie.

Alexa Chung went along with her brother Dom and described it as “absolute perfection”, while Dua Lipa was spotted belting out lyrics with her boyfriend Callum Turner and Noel’s daughter Anaïs Gallagher. Some VIPs opted out of the loo/drink dilemma by watching from a private box courtesy of Seat Unique, where there was a lavish buffet, unlimited drink and that all-important bathroom to yourself.
