What we learned from the new Stranger Things season 4 trailer

It’s been a while since we’ve had new material from Stranger Things, three years to be exact. Well, Netflix ’s retro sci-fi horror hit just released a trailer for its fourth season coming very soon.

The new season promises more action and the return of an old friend, the Demogorgon. The trailer even included a hair metal guitarist at a bar in the Upside Down, it will be interesting to see how that plays into the plot.

Here’s the official Netflix synopsis of Stranger Things season 4: “It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier.

"In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.” What else have we learnt from the trailer? Here’s everything you need to know.

What we learnt from the new Stranger Things season 4 trailer

The Stranger Things season four trailer kicks off with a jump scare but reminds us of how the previous season ended. In the Russian lab deep under the Starcourt Mall, we see the ruins of the machine that was meant to give access to The Upside Down. The machine was successfully destroyed by the gang but not before Hopper was sucked in and ended up in Russia.

The trailer confirms Hopper’s alive but stuck in a Russian prison. We get glimpses of his struggle there and we are reminded that he is far from home as Journey’s Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) plays over the trailer. The new season might see the reunion of Eleven and Hopper.

We then see Max sat by her brother’s grave and in another sequence we see Max floating above Billy’s tombstone, it seems like Max’s gained some magic that is tied to the death of her brother. For those that need a reminder, Billy was first introduced in season two as the handsome bully but in season 3 he became the supervillain when the Mind Flayer took over his body. At the end of season 3, Billy sacrificed himself to the Mind Flayer in order to save his sister and her friends.

Eleven confirms she no longer has powers but in another sequence, with her covered in blood she seems to be using her powers. She’s definitely going to need it as the trailer indicates something big and bad is going to happen as this season’s villain Vecna is revealed at the end. Like the villains Demogorgon and Mind Flayer before him, Vecna gets his name from the Dungeons & Dragons universe.

When is Stranger Things season 4 coming out?

Stranger Things season four is scheduled to be released on Netflix in two volumes. The first set for May 27, 2022, and the second five weeks later on July 1, 2022.
