What time will Taoiseach Micheal Martin make an announcement today on pubs and phase four?

The Taoiseach is set to give the public an update on phase four this evening ahead of the proposed relaxation of measures Monday.

Micheal Martin will address the nation from Government buildings on pubs reopening on July 20 and a number of other restrictions.

Earlier today the Fianna Fail leader hinted that the pub date could be postponed due to "concern" regarding recent cases figures.

What time will the Taoiseach make an announcement today?

Mr Martin is currently scheduled to address the public at 6:30pm although that is subject to change.

The Taoiseach will be joined by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly and acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn.

What is expected?

The Taoiseach will update on the latest pub situation with speculation the July 20 date could be postponed.

Mr Martin said earlier today: "I have to say that there is some concern in terms of an increase in numbers, in terms of the spread of the virus.

“And I think we have to be very, very clear headed in terms of what our overarching priority is and where our focus needs to be."

Face masks and coverings are likely to become mandatory in shops and indoor spaces across Ireland.

Current coronavirus legislation is in force for buses and trains requiring passengers to wear some form of face covering.

It has now been proposed that this be extended to cover shops and other indoor spaces, RTE reports.

What is scheduled to happen on Monday currently?

  • pubs, bars, hotel bars and casinos may reopen
  • gatherings of up to 100 people indoors and 500 outdoors will be permissible
