Nicola Sturgeon Covid update today and what time FM will make announcement

Nicola Sturgeon will update the country on the battle to overcome the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday afternoon.

The First Minister is expected to outline the latest case numbers while also giving an update on the progress of the vaccination programme.

The issue of vaccine passports is also likely to come up, with experts discussing whether it's the right move for large indoor events.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Monday that nightclubs and other indoor events with larger crowds south of the border would be required to check in advance whether those attending have been double jabbed. This rule will be in place from September.

It is unclear whether Scotland will follow suit, although the First Minister is likely to face questions on this today.

What time will Nicola Sturgeon's update take place today?

Sturgeon's update is expected to get underway at 12.15pm.

As is normally the case the FM will provide a brief statement, giving an update on figures and other key points, before taking questions from journalists.

This comes as the Scottish Government announced on Monday that there had been 1,464 new cases of the virus confirmed across Scotland, with test positivity at 10.3 per cent. No additional deaths were reported, although register offices are generally closed at weekends.

536 people were receiving treatment in hospital after testing positive, with 45 patients in ICU.

So far as the vaccination programme goes a total of 3,981,950 people have received their first dose, with 2,978,746 people now fully vaccinated.
