What time is Nicola Sturgeon update today on Covid lockdown and what to expect

Scots will hear all the latest on coronavirus today from Nicola Sturgeon as she updates MSPs at Holyrood.

It comes after the First Minister yesterday said she was "truly sorry" for any mistakes the government may have made as the UK registered over 100,000 Covid deaths.

At her daily update on Wednesday, Sturgeon also slammed travel plans introduced by the UK Government.

She said Prime Minister Boris Johnson's plans "do not go far enough", indicating she would be pushing the government to go further.

If agreement on a cross-UK approach was not reached, the First Minister said she would consider introducing tighter rules in Scotland.

"It's probably the least that could be done on the issue of supervised quarantine," she said.

Ms Sturgeon said: "I think I do have a duty at this point to say that I am concerned that the proposal does not go far enough and I've made that point very strongly in the four-nations discussions that we've just had today.

"So while the Scottish Government will initially emulate the UK Government's steps on enhancing quarantine arrangements, we will be seeking urgently to persuade them to go much further and indeed to move to a comprehensive system of supervised quarantine.

"Given the obvious practical issues involved, we are very clear that our preference is to have consistent quarantine rules across the UK, but if there is no agreement to go further on a four-nations basis, we will be considering going further ourselves and we will set out any such additional measures next week."

She went on to say the UK need an effective ring put around it in order to prevent a repeat of last summer, where cases spiked as international travel returned.

The First Minister is likely to asked about this at her update in parliament today.

And with ongoing criticism of the vaccine rollout from opposition parties, this is also likely to be a focus of MSPs.
