What time is Nicola Sturgeon speaking today and how to watch coronavirus briefing

Nicola Sturgeon will update the nation on the ongoing battle against Covid-19 this afternoon.

The First Minister will return to the podium to deliver updates on Scotland's vaccination programme and the effectiveness of current lockdown measures in driving down coronavirus case numbers.

The briefing is due to get underway at 12.15pm, and it will be shown live on the BBC Scotland channel.

It was announced earlier this week that schools will remain closed until the middle of February at the earliest, with a phased reopening likely to take place when it's safe to do so. Lockdown restrictions will also continue well into February. Decisions on lockdown and schools reopening will be reviewed by the Scottish Government on February 2.

On Thursday 1636 new coronavirus cases were reported across Scotland, with 182 of these in the NHS Lothian area.

2004 people were being treated for Covid-19 in the country's hospitals, with 161 patients in intensive care units.

89 additional deaths had been registered in the 24-hours leading up to Thursday's publication, taking the total number across the country to 5468.
