What Thomas Tuchel has said about Chelsea and Manchester United transfer target amid 'talks'

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is a huge admirer of Blues target Eduardo Camavinga.

Camavinga, 18, has one year left on his contract at Rennes and this has prompted many of Europe's elite clubs to take notice of the French star ahead of a potential move.

Manchester United are currently the most advanced club when it comes to pursuing the 18-year-old, but with nothing agreed at this moment, there is still time for other clubs to enter the fray for the youngster.

Le Parisian via Get French Football News (GFFN) have today linked Chelsea with a move for the midfielder, saying the Blues' hierarchy have been in contact with Jonathan Barnett, who is the agent of Camavinga.

With Billy Gilmour sealing his loan deal to Norwich City a few days ago, space has opened up for another midfielder to join the squad roster ahead of a busy 2021/22 season for the Blues, as Tuchel's side aim to defend their Champions League title.

Chelsea are in the transfer market for a defensive midfielder this summer, with Declan Rice as the number one option for the club. But West Ham's valuation for the player of £100million may force the Blues to look at alternatives.

And who better than a player Tuchel has previously waxed lyrical about during his time as manager of French giants Paris-Saint Germain.

When the Parisians were linked with Camavinga in last summer's transfer window, Tuchel made his thoughts well known to the mainstream media about the quality of the player.

Speaking in September 2020, the now Chelsea manager said: "Would I like to have him on my team? Yes, of course. But I can't talk about other players, who are not from my team.

"He's one of the best players in Ligue 1. He's a great player, very strong, with a great future. But he also plays in a great team which plays in the Champions League. But that's not how it goes, it's not Monopoly!

"I'm not going to say not to recruit him, but that's not how it goes."

Camavinga featured 39 times for Rennes in all competitions last season, and at only 18 years of age he has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the world.

In the 2019/20 season as per FBref.com, the French midfielder recorded the most tackles in the league (98) for his club compared to any other player.
