Revealed: What Steve Bruce makes of Newcastle United takeover talk

Steve Bruce is remaining “relaxed” as Newcastle United’s takeover edges closer.

The Amanda Staveley-brokered buy-out, which will see Saudi Arabia’s PiF take an 80% stake, is in the final stages of the Owners and Directors tests which are the final part of the protracted £300million buy-out.

With Mike Ashley having agreed the deal, the checks are the last thing needed to complete a deal which will usher in a new era at St James’ Park.

It’s understood there will be no immediate changes but Bruce will be fully aware that speculation about possible successors has already begun in earnest. Rafa Benitez and Mauricio Pochettino have both been mentioned as options for the new investors.

However his son Alex revealed Bruce’s mindset about the unfolding situation at Newcastle.

“He is very, very, very relaxed,” he told Football Insider.

“Hand on heart, haven’t heard a thing. I see my dad every day, more or less, he lives over the back from me. I’ve seen certain comments, Sam Allardyce the other day saying he must be really worried, but trust me, if you could see him he’s very, very, very relaxed.

“He’s forgotten more than most about football, he’s been in the game that long so he doesn’t worry himself about things that are totally out of his control.

“He just keeps his head down and whatever will be, will be.

“He loves being Newcastle manager but when there’s a takeover in place, you just have to watch this space.

“He’s very very relaxed. No one knows when the season’s going to be up and running again but there’s nothing set in stone. By all accounts, it’s very very quiet.”
