The Seattle Seahawks have four restricted free agents that they’ll need to decide how to approach this offseason, less they lose them in free agency.
The most notable RFA is tackle/tight end George Fant, who Seattle certainly will try to retain for 2019. Next is big defensive end Quinton Jefferson, who had himself a quietly excellent season.
The final two are fullback Tre Madden and cornerback Akeem King.
After playing five games his rookie year back in 2015, King spent the next two seasons on Atlanta and Seattle’s practice squads before making Seattle’s active roster last season – playing in all 16 games and recording 21 combined tackles and one quarterback hit.
King took over as Seattle’s special teams extraordinaire, and filled in admirably when Delano Hill went down with an injury toward the end of the season.
However – it seems unlikely that Seattle will tender King an offer even after his career year. King would almost certainly sign an original round tender, as that would guarantee him more than double his total career earnings.
Rather, Seattle will probably let King test the free agent market with the hopes of bringing him back to compete for a job in camp.
With Kalan Reed, Justin Coleman and Neiko Thorpe all set to hit free agency, not to mention Earl Thomas, Seattle will likely have a great opportunity for King to find some playing time next year – if they can bring him back on the cheap.
