What's trending and happening this week

1. There's fun for the whole family this Songkran at Megabangna's Mega Splash ... Mega Lanna Happiness. The mall will turn into the ancient Kingdom of Lanna and will be extravagantly decorated with flags and lanterns. Activities at the Sook Jai Zone will feature Lanna-style performances such as Jeng dance, a northern elegant but exhilarating dance that has roots in martial arts. At the Sard Sanook Zone, splash away all the heat at the mobile water park, which will be equipped with a giant water slide and water tunnel. For some retro fun, there will also be a traditional temple fair, with all its old-fashioned ice pops, sugar candy sculptures, shooting galleries and dunk tank girls. Celebrate the festivities at Megabangna from 10am-7pm until tomorrow.

2. Ever wondered what's inside the belly of a shark? Apparently, a maze of pink flamingoes and rubber duckies. If you happen to pop by The Mall Bangkae, Bangkapi or Nakhon Ratchasima, don't miss their ongoing summer campaign Crazy Maze, which lets customers enter a shark's belly to experience a crazy maze filled with colourful mirrors and cartoon characters. Next door, there's an exclusive menu by After You and Cheng Sim Ei that's served. The Crazy Thai Tea Kakigori Thai tea features a shaved ice loaded with jujubes, lotus roots, red beans and longan sauce. Enter the shark belly for free by spending 1,000 baht at the shopping centre at Bangkapi, Bangkae and Nakhon Ratchasima until Wednesday.

3. Add some Mexican flair and gorgeous views to your Songkran at 72 Courtyard's Touche Hombre. The modern Mexican cuisine destination from Melbourne will be throwing weekly specials throughout April. Tonight, join in on the Chicken Jugs & Nacho Bowls Party. Don't just have one cocktail, come with the gang and share cocktails in an oversized jug shaped like a chicken. Choose from their three signatures: La Paloma (850 baht), Los Cocos Locos (1,200 baht) or Dirty Dancing (1,400 baht). There will be free mini tacos all night, but the Beef Nacho Bowls are offered for 350 baht. Visit 72 Courtyard at Thonglor.

4. Don't fret if you've missed out on Escape hotel's previous artist collaborations with Wisut Ponnimit and Teaspoon Studio. Get an extra dose of colour this summer with their latest featured artist: Clubpopp. Known for his retro pop art style, Clubpopp will be bringing a touch of 80s pop culture to the resort with his modern art installations. Upon arrival, guests will be greeted with a popping video mapping -- the first time Escape hotels guests get to dabble with this art. While you're at it, a special set of souvenirs is also available for purchase during your stay and includes a colourful scarf, a cute eye mask, suitcase tags and a tote bag inside a mesh bag. Clubpopp's installations will run at Escape Khaoyai and Escape Huahin until Aug 31.

5. Now that CentralPlaza Rama 3 is finally done with its renovations, the 6th floor is looking pretty dandy with its redecorated and reorganised array of restaurants. A newcomer has come to open shop and if you've got a penchant for the Japanese pork cutlet dish tonkatsu, don't miss Kimukatsu. Their renowned original Mille-Feuille Katsu features pork loins pounded into thin slices before getting wrapped into signature pieces of 25 layers to achieve that feather-light mouthfeel with each bite. The top six flavours to choose from include original, cheddar cheese, garlic, black pepper, Japanese spring onion and yuzu kosho (a paste made with chilli peppers, yuzu peel and salt). Visit Kimukatsu on the 6th floor of CentralPlaza Rama 3.
