Opening Friday:

"Gold" (R): Matthew McConaughey is a modern-day prospector on an expedition to find gold in Indonesia's uncharted jungle.

"A Dog's Purpose" (PG): Lasse Hallstrom directs this adaptation of W. Bruce Cameron's novel about a dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who changes the lives of his human owners (including Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton and Luke Kirby) over the course of various canine reincarnations.

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" (R): Promises, promises.

HOME VIDEO

In stores Tuesday:

"Inferno" (DVD/Blu-ray/4K): Tom Hanks and director Ron Howard reunite for a third installment in the adventures of the intrepid symbology professor made famous in Dan Brown's novels.

"Wait Until Dark" (Blu-ray): The classic 1967 thriller about a blind woman (Audrey Hepburn) taunted by thieves inside her own home makes its high-def debut.

"The Monster" (DVD/Blu-ray): A mother (Zoe Kazan) and daughter (Ella Ballentine) stranded on a deserted road fend off an attack by a ferocious creature in this thriller by writer-director Bryan Bertino ("The Strangers").
