What Mauricio Pochettino said about Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane as Man United decision made

Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane are ‘very similar’ amid constant links with Manchester United.

The Argentine has been rumoured to be one of the candidates to be appointed the Red Devils’ new head coach once Ralf Rangnick’s spell in charge of the side comes to a conclusion at the end of the season.

Some reports have suggested that an agreement is already in place between Manchester United and Pochettino’s current employers Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, MailOnline have claimed that the players at Old Trafford are in favour of Pochettino taking over, with the former Spurs boss being a preferred candidate to Ajax’s Erik ten Hag.

Should he complete a switch then the 49-year-old would have one of the greatest goalscorers of the modern game at his disposal in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Having overseen the rise of Harry Kane whilst in north London, Pochettino has drawn comparisons between the pair whilst also signalling his admiration of the Portuguese superstar.

Talking with Marca in 2017, he said: "He's [Ronaldo] a phenomenon. He has been awarded 'The Best' and the truth is that he deserves it.

“In addition to his qualities as a professional, he is an example. He never tires of repeating that the secret is to work hard, to strive, to take care of himself. Every player should apply it."

"They [Ronaldo and Kane] are very similar in terms of professionalism,” he continued. “They understand that we must strive to achieve success. He has a similar mentality. I do not know Cristiano in depth, but he gives me the same feeling as Harry."

Intriguingly, both Ronaldo and Kane have endured rollercoaster seasons with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur respectively this season.

The former enjoyed a lightning start after his return from Juventus by netting 14 goals in all competitions before the turn of the year. He is yet to find the net in 2022 though.

Elsewhere, Kane endured a poor start to the season amid suggestions he wanted to leave Tottenham but still has 15 goals to his name following a run of four goals in seven Premier League matches.
