What Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool defender ahead of departure

Liverpool defender Nat Phillips has revealed what Jurgen Klopp told him ahead of his return to Stuttgart.

The centre-half was recalled from his loan spell with the German outfit earlier this month, and returned to Merseyside to make his senior debut against Everton in the FA Cup.

Phillips partnered Joe Gomez in defence and helped the Reds keep a clean sheet as they ran out 1-0 winners and booked their place in the fourth round of the competition.

On Sunday, it was announced Phillips would return to Stuttgart to see out the remainder of the campaign.

And the 22-year-old defender has revealed the advice Klopp gave him ahead of his loan switch.

"He said 'go back and enjoy it'," Phillips told the Stuttgarter Nachrichten as cited here.

"It makes perfect sense for me to be back at VfB to accumulate game time. That was the original plan.

"Jurgen Klopp also thanked me for my efforts. But he shouldn't have done that. I am grateful myself."
