What Jadeveon Clowney trade to Seattle means for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks entered the summer with many questions about the defensive line after trading Frank Clark to the Chiefs and losing Jarran Reed for the first six games of the season due to his suspension.

Signing free agent Ezekiel Ansah this spring, Seattle has had to wait for the defensive end to take the field as he recovered from shoulder surgery and a groin injury.

The Seahawks now have a proven pass rusher who is able to have an immediate impact. Seattle agreed to acquire Jadeveon Clowney in a trade with the Texans, sending Barkevious Mingo, Jacob Martin and a 2020 third-round draft pick to Houston in return.

The exchange should pay dividends for Seattle.

The Seahawks won’t be able to lock Clowney up for the long term just yet. He must first sign his franchise tender with the Texans to complete the trade – effectively playing on a one-year deal with everything to prove.

There’s at least one player in Seattle who is relieved to have Clowney on his side.

The Seahawks must trim their roster to 53 players by 1:00 p.m. PT. Solidifying the pass rush has now been checked off the list.
