An innovative new way of watching television came to our homes last year. Sky Glass is still one of the few televisions which can stream everything you need, direct from your broadband router.
Designed to be simple, Sky launched their Glass product in October 2021, exciting the streaming market, with one of its main attractions being that it could ditch the satellite dish and unsightly TV box and power your favourite channels through your internet connection.
Those who have the Glass don’t have to drill a satellite dish to the side of their homes, or position a TV box on their stand, or even configure an external sound bar or system to achieve Dolby Atmos sound, or fiddle around with numerous HDMI cables, the TV does it all for them.

There’s one single power cable to plug into the mains and a single push of a button on your Wi-Fi router, and you're connected. Glass brings together live freeview and Sky channels, like Sky Showcase, Sky History and Sky Atlantic, as well as live sports fixtures and blockbusters on Sky Cinema, with on-demand boxsets from HBO, and streaming services including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and Apple TV+ in a single package.
The voice-activation, similar to Amazon’s Alexa device, also lets you browse channels, pick one to watch and add your favourite shows to your Playlist. There’s a remote that comes with it but with voice-activation if you’ve lost the remote (usually down the back of the sofa) you can just say “Hello Sky,...” with your command.
So how much will Sky Glass cost you? This depends on the size you pick and the package you go for because to have Glass you will need to be a Sky customer. However, Sky has come up with a new way to deliver the Sky Glass experience. The Sky Stream allows Sky customers to have the Glass experience on any other television, read more on that here.
Sky Glass comes in three sizes, 43 inch, 55 inch and 65 inch, and there’s a choice of five colours to choose from but the colour shouldn’t affect the price of the model. To buy outright the small size (43 inch) is priced at £649, whereas the medium (55 inch) is £899 and the biggest size (65 inch) is £1,149.
These prices have changed since Sky Glass was first launched in the UK. While the 43 inch has remained the same price, the 55 inch has gone up by £50, from £849 and the 65 inch has gone up by £100, from £1,049. Perhaps prices will be reduced though for the upcoming Black Friday sales?
Buying outright will save you entering into a monthly plan of course, but an important thing to note here is there will be an additional cost anyway for your Sky TV package, as mentioned earlier, you need to be a Sky TV customer to experience Sky Glass.
Monthly options can be ideal if you can’t afford to make the Glass TV purchase in one hit, plus most of Sky’s monthly payment plans on Glass come with 0% interest. Here’s a run down of monthly plans for Sky Glass (without TV packages):

If you want a separate TV package to Sky then they offer Sky TV and Netflix for £26 a month for 18 months, with a £20 set-up fee. For sport lovers there’s the Sky TV, Netflix and Sky Sports package for £46 a month for 18 months, with a £20 set-up fee. And for film fans there’s the Sky TV, Netflix and Cinema package for £38 a month for 18 months, with a £20 set-up fee - see all of their TV deals here.
You’ll also need to make sure you have a strong broadband connection too. Glass can only work on broadband providers with a minimum internet speed of 10Mbps, which many broadband providers can now actually deliver for a reasonable price too.
Internet speeds will need to be at least 25Mbps if you want to watch Sky Sports, Sky Cinema or TV shows in ultra HD to be able to take advantage of Sky Glass's 4k resolution. To watch from another room, your average internet speed still needs to be between 30 and 40Mbps.
