What has been said about Rangers-linked Davide Ancelotti?

Reports in Spain in Italy suggest that Davide Ancelotti will be the next manager of Rangers.

An appointment is not expected to be imminent, with the Ibrox club hopeful of having a new manager in place within the next four weeks.

Ancelotti, son of Real Madrid boss Carlo, works as an assistant coach at Los Blancos, and has worked under his dad for well over a decade.

In that time, the 35-year-old worked for PSG, Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and Real.

Here is some of what has been said about Ancelotti during the early days of his coaching career.

Carlo Ancelotti

"Davide is a competent, disciplined, professional and very calm assistant coach.

"He's here because he's a good professional, not because he is my son."

Real Madrid players

“He is top, he has a high level and it is interesting to work with him,” one first-team player told The Athletic.

“He talks a lot with us, he is very active. We respect him a lot.”

“As he is younger, he is the one who talks more with us and more in a joking tone, creating a very good atmosphere. He's from the new generation, like some of us,” says another.

Real Madrid staff

“He has a good role model,” says a member of the first-team staff.

“From there he has been evolving and he has his own ideas, which he always shares with Carlo. It's true they don't look like father and son. They argue a lot, in a good way.

“Davide is the one who leads organisation, setting goals. He likes to be involved in both individual and group training specific to each area of the pitch, although he doesn't have time for everything because of the team's busy routine.

“Tactically, he is very strong and he will continue to grow. He watches a lot of football and interprets the game very well.

"He knows how to detect important aspects and to take variants from there. And he has learned at many clubs, which is key for egos.”

The ex-Everton defender worked with both Ancelotti's at Goodison Park.

"One of the best I have worked with... calm and easy to speak to," he said."

"You can speak to him about many things, not just football.

"He is a really good coach and owns what he is talking about.

Tam Courts

The former Dundee United manager went through his UEFA Pro Licence course with Ancelotti.

He told the Daily Record: "Davide absolutely has the mentality and the temperament to manage Rangers. Just by his personality.

"He’s very humble but he has a lot of decisiveness too. He’s a man of character and has a bit of steel about him. A lot of that comes from what he doesn’t say, as opposed to what he does. Because he’s a man who chooses his words very carefully.

“There’s no doubt, even though he’s worked at top clubs like Napoli, PSG, Bayern and Real Madrid - working in Glasgow, particularly because of the passion and size of Rangers, it’s still a unique and challenging job.

“With talk of the takeover, it’s a really interesting time to be considered to be Rangers’ next head coach. But Davide speaks perfect English and multiple languages.

“And I totally understand why he’s a guy Rangers would be considering, especially in terms of player attraction and retention.

“He’s a big name. Players would want to come, not just to play for Rangers, but for him as well.

“And if top players at Ibrox are casting their eye elsewhere, I think they’d be interested in working with Davide if he was appointed.”

Javi Martinez

The former Bayern midfielder described him in an interview with the BBC: "Davide completes Carlo and helps him understand the evolution of football.

"Davide is incredible: prepared, serious, a great person, like his father."

The man himself

On retiring aged 20 after an extremely short playing career, Ancelotti embarked on his coaching journey.

“Everyone wants to become a professional player. I realised I had no talent, so I decided to study. I played in the fifth division, but I was very slow. I’m better as a coach."
