Ben Chilwell had an FA Cup final to forget as Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by his former club Leicester City.
The left-back, who left the Foxes for the Blues last summer, was somewhat of a surprise omission from Thomas Tuchel's starting XI at Wembley Stadium.
Marcos Alonso was instead picked ahead of the England international because of his height to combat Leicester's set-pieces and also for his experience of cup finals.
"There are some other guys who feel hurt at the moment," Tuchel explained to BT Sport ahead of kick-off. "They have the chance to come up from the bench and have a huge impact.
"We go for Marcos for a bit more height, more stability at set-pieces and a bit more experience.
"Yes and no [a response to Arsenal]. There was a drop in concentration and focus, maybe human between Real Madrid, Manchester City and the cup final, but it was a crucial match and we missed a big opportunity in the race for top-four.
"We were disappointed. I made my decisions and the team was not so sharp like normal. This is my responsibility and we arrive a bit angry in ourselves.
"It's good and everyone is fully awake and we feel ready."
But after falling behind to Youri Tielemans' wonder-strike, Tuchel almost immediately turned to Chilwell in a bid to get Chelsea back on level terms.
And the first thing that happened to Chilwell upon being introduced to proceedings was to be booed by the Leicester fans inside Wembley and this continued each time he touched the ball.
With that said, Chilwell twice almost silenced the boo-boys.
Firstly, his headed effort came back off the post in the 77th minute following a fine save from Kasper Schmeichel.
Then in dramatic scenes in the final few minutes, Chilwell thought he had forced an equaliser for Chelsea only for VAR to intervene and disallow the goal as he was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up.
