Arsenal are one of a number of clubs keen on Hakim Ziyech ahead of his move away from Ajax.
Ajax director of football Marc Overmars confirmed last week that the Moroccan international would be leaving the club this summer.
Manchester United and Liverpool are both believed to be keen on the 26-year-old, who could be available for just £25m.
It is reported Arsenal are leading the race for Ziyech and his previous comments on the Gunners stand them in good stead in the race for his signature.
Speaking to Ajax TV with former teammate Justin Kluivert in 2017, the winger was asked which clubs he would like to play for in the future.
"Well, I have two clubs. They are Arsenal and Barcelona . That is my ultimate dream," he said.
Ziyech went on to outline the one player he aspires to be, and he is also currently plying his trade at the Emirates.
"Yes, I actually do have one. [Mesut] Ozil," he added.
Asked if he could be as good as the German playmaker, Ziyech responded: "No, i’m not even close to Ozil’s level."

Ziyech is likely to be one of a host of departures from the Dutch champions this summer.
Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona, while the La Liga giants face competition from Liverpool and Manchester United for Matthijs de Ligt.
Ajax stars David Neres and Donny van de Beek are also targets for some of Europe's top clubs following their stunning performances in the Champions League this term.
