What Hakim Ziyech did to embarrass Mason Holgate for Chelsea against Everton

Chelsea and Everton met in the Premier League on Thursday night and Thomas Tuchel's side were dominant from the outset.

At one point in the opening 45 minutes, the Blues boasted 79 per cent of possession but simply found it tough to find a way past a resolute Rafa Benitez side.

Mason Mount and Reece James both saw good chances go begging in what was a frustrating first half for the hosts as Tuchel's Covid-hit squad looked to close the gap on Manchester City.

Romelu Lukaku, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ben Chilwell and Timo Werner all tested positive for the virus while Kai Havertz was not risked having come down with an illness.

But thanks to their impressive depth in attack, a strong side was still fielded with Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech making up the front three.

It was the latter who provided the most entertaining moment of the first half.

As Antonio Rudiger played a forward pass to the Moroccan, he shaped as if he were about to control the ball before letting it run through his legs instead.

Mason Holgate was completely thrown by the move, left looking around desperately as Ziyech sprinted onto the ball once again to continue the attack.

Pulisic's eventual flick was simple for Pickford to deal with in the end, but it was a moment that certainly provided plenty of entertainment for those inside Stamford Bridge.

Ziyech's future remains uncertain in west London with the winger reportedly unhappy with his lack of game time in recent weeks, with the likes of Hudson-Odoi, Mount and Werner frequently picked ahead of him.

Both Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona are said to be interested in signing the 28-year-old but Ziyech does not seem to be letting the rumours affect his on-field performances.

What the January transfer window will bring when it opens remains to be seen, however.
