What Gas legend Ian Holloway has said about the Bristol Rovers job

Ian Holloway is one of the bookies favourites to be the next Bristol Rovers manager.

Holloway is currently without a job after being sacked from Queens Park Rangers in 2018, but is second on the favourites list only to former MK Dons and Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale.

And he’s now in the running for the job after Graham Coughlan was given permission to speak to Mansfield Town over their vacant manager position.

Rovers fans have been begging Holloway to take to vacant job on social media, with many believing he is the man to keep Rovers in a play off spot.

Here is what he has previously said about the manager's job at the Mem.

'A steady upward curve in fortunes again'

Writing for the Bristol Post before Rovers 2-1 win at Portman Road, Holloway had nothing but praise for Coughlan, he said:

“I was delighted to see Graham nominated for the manager-of-the-month award, something that reflects well not just on him, but his staff and players too.”

“Painful as it is to remember, Rovers were a non-league club less than five years ago. After successive promotions, there was always going to come a time when results hit a plateau and that’s exactly what happened.

“Since Graham took charge I believe we have seen a steady upward curve in fortunes again. It was never going to be more than that from the position he inherited.”

'Disappointing position'

Speaking on the Quest EFL highlights show this weekend, Holloway wasn’t sucked into commenting on whether he was interested in the Rovers job.

But he was clear that the situation the club find themselves in being “disappointing.”

Rovers boss should have 'the club in his veins'

Commenting on the vacant job, before Coughlan was appointed the manager in December 2018, the Bristolian did believe that the manager of Bristol Rovers should have “the club in his veins.”

Open to management once again

While at the end of the 2018/19 season, Holloway declared his interest in getting back into management.

“The job has to be right, but basically I am open to offers. Any club wanting to employ me this season would have had to go through Queens Park Rangers because they were still paying up my contract, but that won’t be the case from the end of this month.”

“In short, don’t be surprised if you see Ollie pacing around the dug-out again sometime in the not to distant future.”

Holloway is among the front runners to be the next Rovers manager but isn’t the only candidate. Other managers mentioned include Paul Tisdale, Michael Flynn and Michael Duff.
