What Ex-Man City midfielder has "heard" about Liverpool and Manchester United target

Ex-Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann has claimed that Liverpool will challenge Manchester United for the signing of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho during next summer's transfer window.

The England international moved to the Bundesliga in 2017 with his path to the Manchester City first-team blocked.

His decision has been fully justified as the 19-year-old has developed into a crucial player for the German side and is now a regular in Gareth Southgate's senior England team.

MEN Sport understand that Manchester United are interested in signing the winger but a January move is unlikely.

Hamann has claimed that Liverpool will rival Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men for his signature during the summer transfer window.

"What I hear is that Liverpool has great interest," he told Sky Germany . "I would imagine that next summer they could become one of the biggest interested parties.

"He’s from Manchester City and I do not know if he would come back again, and it’s a thing for Manchester United, too, if they’ve ever been to the rivals."

Dortmund will demand a huge fee for their prized asset and Hamann believes that Liverpool may be reluctant to meet their demands as well as confirming there is no release clause in his contract.

He added: "Sancho does not have a release clause. If Dortmund say that they want an astronomical amount, it will not happen.

"There are currently few players that could reinforce [Liverpool’s] offensive [lineup]. I don’t know if Sancho’s such a player, but maybe if there’s one going away from those three, then Sancho would be predestined for this offensive alliance."
