Video sharing app TikTok has become the latest go-to for funny videos, life hacks and everything in between. It is used by one billion users around the world every month, according to market and consumer data company Statista.
Since its launch just five years ago, it has become the sixth most popular social media network, and boasts more than twice the number of users than Twitter. Since its launch, it has been updated to allow a whole host of new features, one of which is its ‘Repost’ function.
Added to the app earlier this year, ‘Repost’ allows TikTokkers to share a video from their ‘For You’ video feed onto their friends’ feeds. The feature is similar to a retweet on Twitter, or a share on Facebook.

Only friends of the user who reposted the video can see it on their feed, which includes accounts the user followers and who also follow back. The reposted video will not show on your own feed, but will be seen by your friends on TikTok.
Reposting a video on TikTok can be done in just a few simple steps. First, open the TikTok app and go to your ‘For You’ feed by tapping ‘For You’ near the top of the screen.
Then tap the share icon near the bottom-right of the screen – it is represented by a right-facing arrow. A pop-up menu will then appear containing the yellow ‘Repost’ icon on the left-hand side.
Simply tap this icon to repost a video to your friends on TikTok. When the pop-up menu disappears, you will see a new icon next to your profile picture towards the bottom on the video which says ‘+Add comment’.
Tapping this button allows you to add a message to the reposted video to be seen by your friends. Like on other social media platforms, the reposted video will not be credited to you but to its original creator.
