What does Mark Zuckerberg own? New net worth makes Facebook founder fifth richest person

Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive of Meta – the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp – could receive $700m (£549m) a year in dividends from the company's first-ever dividend announced for investors.

On Thursday, Meta announced it would pay its first-ever quarterly dividend to investors since Facebook floated on the stock market in 2012, after beating Wall Street expectations with $40bn in revenues for the final quarter last year.

With Mr Zuckerberg holding about 350 million shares, he would take home about $175 million in each quarterly payment before taxes, according to Bloomberg data.

In 2022, the 39-year-old took home $27.1 million in total compensation, including private security costs and a base salary of $1, according to Meta’s filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Meta has not yet revealed executive compensation for 2023.

Meta had a market value of about $1.01 trillion at the close of trade on Thursday.

“We had a good quarter as our community and business continue to grow,” Mr Zuckerberg said.

“We have made a lot of progress on our vision for advancing AI [artificial intelligence] and the metaverse.”

Mr Zuckerberg is best known for co-founding the social media service Facebook, along with his Harvard roommates in 2004, but what else does the tech mogul own?
