What does it mean if you see DNI on TikTok and why it appears on some posts

For many people TikTok seems to becoming an ever increasingly essential social media site. Youngsters often spend their lives looking at the site on phones and tablets only pausing to chuckle or gasp before moving on to the next reel.

But as with all social media apps, there are a host of rules which must be followed and abbreviations spelling out comments or instructions. And many of these can leave some of us baffled.

People have begun to notice the letters DNI appearing on some TikTok posts. But what do they mean?

According to award-winning esports, gaming and influencer site dextero.com it has a very specific meaning. They say the three letters are likely to appear in someone's bio or profile. But they can also be spotted in video captions or comments.

It says on TikTok DNI means "Do Not Interact". It will be either preceded or followed by the name of a group of people or type of person such as "minors DNI".

So in other words it acts as a warning that some of the content might not be suitable for those people. This could be because it is adult content, however it can also be for other reasons.

DNI is just one of a host of abbreviations on TikTok and other social media sites. These include things like POV which means "point of view". But some are less straightforward with multiple meanings such as SMH which usually stands for "shaking my head" or "shake my head," and is a reaction to express some form of disappointment but can also mean "so much hate", "smack my head" or "somehow".
