Wetherspoons to close majority of Scottish pubs this weekend

Wetherspoons will close the majority of their pubs in Scotland this weekend in response to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions in the country.

46 of 61 pubs in Scotland will be shut as of 6pm tomorrow (Saturday), with the pub chain taking the decision to close the doors at venues across the country which are under tier 3 restrictions, including Glasgow.

Wetherspoons confirmed the pubs will be re-opened when they can 'trade more normally'.

Under level 3 restrictions, pubs can stay open until 6pm, but are banned from selling alcohol.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon this evening told Glasgow Live: “We can confirm that 46 of our 61 pubs in Scotland will close from 6pm Saturday and reopen when restrictions are eased and our pubs can trade more normally.

“We look forward to reopening our pubs in due course.”

There are 10 different Wetherspoons branches across our city, with more in the Greater Glasgow area.
