Consumer watchdog Which? has warned Facebook users as fraudsters are posing as the popular pub chain.
Wetherspoons closed down all of its social media back in 2018 but that hasn't stopped fraudsters from trying to scam social media users.
The posts claim that users who comment - and get a response from the page- are in with a chance of winning meal vouchers for Wetherspoons. But the pages were in fact set up by scammers in a bid to target social media users.
Posts ask you to like, comment and share with your friends reading: "Congratulations for those who have received comments from us, you have the opportunity to win them".
Users are then asked to follow a link to the competition website and leave their personal details.
The Facebook pages set up by fraudsters do not often have a large following as many are new. But concerns have been raised over the potential these posts have to reach a large audience.
'Wetherspoons Facebook scam' searches on Google have increased by 800% in the past week, according to Which?.
The popular budget pub group addressed the scam but issuing a statement on their website.
"Wetherspoons does not use any social media. Any promotions on social media which appear to be from Wetherspoons are, therefore, unofficial and fake - so please do not participate or share your details with such adverts.
"We will continue to report fake pages and do apologise for any inconvenience caused by these unassociated spam accounts."
