Wetherspoons names new general manager for Scotland

JD Wetherspoon has appointed Helen Dumbreck as its new general manager for Scotland.

Hailing from from Ardrossan, North Ayrshire, she has worked with the company for 21 years holding roles as pub manager, area manager and regional manager.

Dumbreck will have overall responsibility for Wetherspoon’s 60 Scottish pubs, which employ more than 2,500 people and generate around £160m of sales.

She started as a part-time bar associate at The Salt Cot in Saltcoats, where she spent three years, before working a further three years at The Wheatsheaf in Kilmarnock - becoming pub manager there in 2005 - followed by four years in Glasgow at The Society Room.

She was appointed as area manager in 2011 and regional manager in 2017.

Wetherspoon chief executive John Hutson said: “Helen richly deserves her promotion to general manager, she is Wetherspoon through and through and our Scottish pubs are in very safe hands with her at the helm.”

Dumbreck added: “I look forward to working with the area and pub managers, as well as all staff, to ensure that the pubs continue to be popular with our customers and successful.”

The national pub group opened its Scottish sites on 26 April, as the country moved to Level 3, meaning pubs could resume full outdoor service - subject to local licensing - and serve food indoors without alcohol until 8pm.
