Wetherspoons diners say breakfast 'worst ever' as chain runs out of eggs and hash browns

Furious Wetherspoons customers have slammed the chain as the 'worst breakfast they've ever had' after it ran out of eggs and hash browns.

But this is not the first time that Tim Martin' s Wetherspoons has been hit by shortages.

Wetherspoons restaurants are reportedly running out of the products due to supply issues, despite both items being found in a supermarket just minutes away from one of the chain's pubs.

Customers at numerous pubs have been noticing signs popping up, informing them of the lack of produce at restaurants around the country.

One customer found a note at The Standing Order in Edinburgh, while another has been seen some 450 miles away.

It read: "Because of a short-term supply issue with our usual hash browns, we are sourcing a temporary substitute which the manufacturers has stated may contain milk.

"These are not suitable, therefore, for a vegan-based diet or anyone with a milk allergy /intolerance."

The same sign was also spotted at The Red Lion pub at Gatwick airport last week.

The notice also says the pub chain has been experiencing supply issues with eggs, which are now being sourced by farms across Europe instead.

Despite this, a supermarket just a five-minute walk away from the Edinburgh pub had hash browns suitable for a vegan diet and UK-sourced eggs.

Customers have been left angry and let down by the chain once again, as the lack of ingredients comes just weeks after the firm was hit by an egg shortage.

Many punters have taken to social media to express their disappointment at the lack of produce available (Jam Press)

Speaking about their disappointing breakfast, one punter said: "The worst Wetherspoons I’ve ever had, disappointed they never had brown sauce, but then the large breakfast came.

"No eggs, no hash browns, and the rest was cold, but they did give me an extra cold sausage."

Another diner said: "@UKjdspoons in Manchester wetherspoons to order #vegan breakfast to be told you no longer give this option as you can’t guard hash browns are vegan! What gives?!

"It’s not hard to purchase vegan hash browns and now you are not catering for vegans in the morning."

The vital ingredients were however found in a supermarket - just minutes from one of the chain's pubs (Jam Press)

And a third wrote: "Wetherspoons for breakfast (do not judge) no eggs ! Problem solver that I am..I've got eggs! Not allowed to use them."

While another said: "In Wetherspoons Dereham. No Christmas meals available and they have no eggs!!"

One more punter put: "Went to Wetherspoons for a breakfast today....they didn't have any eggs! If I'd have know I could have brought my own..."

Eggs were also on sale at the supermarket, despite the sign on the door of Wetherspoons (Jam Press)

In November this year, Tim Martin 's company blamed "temporary supply issues" regarding the lack of eggs his pubs on the impact avian flu had on egg production.

Punters noticed that there were other options available on the breakfast menu to replace the lack of eggs, such as hash browns, sausage or onion rings.

During the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, which was done in August 2020 to counter the economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the chain ran out of ketchup.

And supply chain issues last year also meant that some Wetherspoons pubs ran out of booze.

A spokesperson from JD Wetherspoon declined to comment when approached by the Mirror.
