West Virginia launches Heisman campaign for QB Will Grier

West Virginia is hoping quarterback Will Grier can lead the Mountaineers to a Big 12 championship, possibly a spot in the College Football Playoff and along the way claim college football's top individual prize.

So with that in mind, the school has begun an extensive Heisman Trophy campaign that kicked off Saturday with the unveiling of a website.

It's the second Heisman campaign unveiled for this upcoming season with UCF debuting a #Hisman crusade for quarterback McKenzie Milton.

Grier is coming off a season in which he was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year after collecting more than 3,600 yards of total offense with 36 total touchdowns before suffering a season-ending injury on Nov. 18 against Texas. He missed the final two regular-season games as well as the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

The former Florida transfer passed for at least 300 yards in a game nine times last season and threw multiple touchdowns in 10 games including back-to-back games with five touchdowns against Texas Tech and Baylor.

Grier is the top returning passer in the Big 12 this upcoming season and is among the top players with sports betting sites who released odds on the award.

A West Virginia player hasn't won the award since its inception in 1935 but former Mountaineers quarterback Major Harris was a two-time finalist for the honor back in 1988-89.
