West of Scotland League chiefs are poised for a rethink on next season in anticipation of another lockdown later in the year.
League vice chairman Colin Boyd this week revealed he’s concerned about the viability of clubs being able to fulfill the usual quota of league and cup competition matches.
He fears that another shutdown could lead to fixture chaos that could derail the entire campaign.
Now he wants to safeguard league fixtures as much as possible, meaning cup competitions could give way to free up as many dates on the calendar as possible.
Boyd said: “In my opinion, we have to work on the basis that some form of lockdown is inevitable so we can take the best possible approach.
“I think the priority this year has to be the leagues. We want to be in a position where we are able to rebalance the leagues at the end of the campaign.
“We may only have 20 to 30 Saturdays if there’s another lockdown and currently there are four cup competitions our clubs can be involved in.
“We have to be realistic and that’s where a bit of crisis management might need to come into play.
“We will have seven teams relegated from the Premier Division next season and we don’t want to find ourselves in the position where we can’t complete games and we are having to call leagues on a points per game formula.
“We might have to look at getting the league to certain points of the year so we can avoid that scenario as best we can."
