West Lothian thugs leave man with serious injuries after cowardly street attack

A 60-year-old man was left requiring hospital treatment after a cowardly attack outside a supermarket in West Lothian.

Two thugs are said to have assaulted the victim on a busy Bathgate street, causing him serious injury, before casually walking off after carrying out the heinous attack.

The man was rushed to St John’s Hospital in Livingston after passers-by spotted him in distress outside a branch of SPAR on North Bridge Street.

Police have now launched an appeal for information to trace the two men they believe are responsible.

They have asked anyone who was in the area at around 2:40pm on Sunday, May 2 to come forward and have put out a call for dashboard camera footage from passing vehicles to be submitted.

The suspects are described as white and are thought to be aged between 35 and 40 years old.

Detective Constable Samantha Plastow, of Livingston CID, said: “This is a serious incident which resulted in significant injury to the victim, who has thankfully come forward to report this matter.

“The town centre was busy with pedestrians at the time of the assault. We are asking members of the public who witnessed this incident, or who came to the aid of the victim, to get in contact with officers.

"Additionally, I would ask for anyone driving in the area at the time with a dash cam to check to see if they have captured the incident."

DC Plastow added: “Anyone with information that may assist with this investigation, should contact police via 101, quoting incident 2327 of 4 May.”
