West Lothian police crack down on M8 drivers after vehicle caught almost hitting 100mph

Police in West Lothian have been cracking down on speeding drivers this week in a bid to keep the roads safer.

Road Police in Livingston have reported a number of motorists who were caught breaking different traffic laws, from speeding to driving under the influence.

On Saturday, (March 27) officers shared an image of a speed camera rating taken near the 4a junction on the M8, where they had caught a driver exceeding the limit.

They say the driver was found to have been travelling at 99mph, with a report now set to be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

As well as this, other teams had stopped another driver after they were caught moving at 69mph in a 50mph limit along a section of the A899 near Broxburn.

After being pulled over, the person then undertook a drug wipe test, and provided a positive result for Cannabis. After the result, police stated that the driver was arrested, with bloods obtained for analysis.

It comes not long after Edinburgh police caught a number of motorists exceeding the speed limit on Gilmerton Station Road.

The popular route is a 30mph road, but drivers were found to be going as fast as 69mph after police began to monitor the traffic.

Road Policing Scotland shared news of the activity on their social media, posting: "Dalkeith RP carried out speed enforcement last night on Gilmerton Station Road, Edinburgh, which is subject to a 30mph speed limit.

"Several drivers stopped and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for speeds including 50, 59, 63 and 69mph. #InTownSlowDown #NoExcuse."
