West Lothian MP ask local residents to check their eligibility for Cold Weather Payment

Martyn Day MP is urging his constituents to check whether they qualify for the recently triggered Cold Weather Payment.

The recent cold weather means that some residents in Mr Day’s constituency of Linlithgow and East Falkirk may be entitled to a £25 Cold Weather Payment to help with increased costs during the winter months.

Eligibility criteria will apply to people in receipt of certain benefits. These include pension credit; income support; income-based job seeker’s allowance; income-related employment and support allowance and universal credit.

A payment will be made if the average temperature in an area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days.

£25 will be paid for each seven-day period of very cold weather between November 1 and March 31.
