West Ham player ratings vs Eintracht Frankfurt: Antonio isolated, Dawson, Johnson exposed

Alphonse Areola - 6

Could do very little about the opener from Ansgar Knauff as the header was placed to perfection onto his opposite side. Was let down for the second goal by his defence but made a fantastic save to initially deny Sow.

Ben Johnson - 5

Struggled a little on such a big night up against an incredibly pacy attack. Looked a little better going forward but was exposed by Frankfurt's overlap a couple of times.

Kurt Zouma - 6

Back in the team and provided the assist for the equaliser with a brilliant header back across goal from Lanzini's free-kick which Antonio then bundled home.

Craig Dawson - 5

Couldn't always deal with Frankfurt's pace all that well. Was exposed in the second half by Frankfurt's neat passing, with Djibril Sow able to nip past the Englishman before firing at goal. Got a crucial touch on Kamada's shot that ended up coming back off the post.

Aaron Cresswell - 5

Was covering at centre-back for the opener with Dawson out of position, leaving Fornals to try and deal with the run of Knauff. Grew into the game and made a vital tackle to deny Knauff a clean shot at goal soon after, with the German then skying the subsequent effort.

Declan Rice - 5

Consistently breaking up play and reading the game well from midfield. Should have done better to stop the second goal from materialising after rushing out to close down the man, leaving space in behind for Sow to attack into.

Tomas Soucek - 6

Played Jarrod Bowen through on goal early on but the Englishman was unable to convert. Heavily involved in lots of West Ham's best passages of play.

Jarrod Bowen - 6

Presented with a glorious chance to score inside the first 15 minutes but saw his low effort come back off the post after the slightest of touches from Kevin Trapp.

Manuel Lanzini - 5

Put the free-kick onto Zouma's head that Antonio then scored from but struggled to impact the game too much after that. Was eventually taken off for Benrahma with West Ham trailing the game 2-1.

Pablo Fornals - 5

Failed to deal with Knauff's late run for the opener at the back post. Didn't manage to grab hold of the proceedings much but did get more on the ball following Lanzini's substitution.

Michail Antonio - 7

In the right place at the right time to bury the equaliser past Trapp after an excellent nod across goal from Zouma. Continued to work hard for the team and his hold-up play was brilliant at times.

Substitutes

Said Benrahama (for Manuel Lanzini 65') - 6

Involved quickly in the game as he skipped between two Frankfurt defenders and tried to curl one in from outside the box only to see it fall narrowly wide of the top corner. Brought down a long ball with ease but then wasted the subsequent shot with Antonio at the back post.
