Cooch Behar: The judicial magistate court of Tufanganj, Cooch Behar has issued the arrest warrant against Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, John Barla for his alleged non-appearance during a hearing on 15 November of a violation election code of conduct case in 2019 (Parliamentary poll), a court source said on Friday.

It has been alleged that John Barla, the then BJP candidate from the Lok Sabha constituency, and his party's activist supporters had held a road meeting in the BDO office premises violating the election's code of conduct. Election Commission officials then lodged a written complaint against him and three others on charges of the same. The remaining three were granted bail.

A case was registered in the Bakshirhat police station for violation of model code of conduct as the then BJP's Alipurduar's Lok Sabha candidate took out a motorcycle rally without police permission.

The Bakshirhat police started the case against Barla after a court order, sources said. (Agencies)
