West Belfast stabbing incident sees man taken to hospital

A man has been taken to hospital following a suspected stabbing incident in West Belfast.

Emergency Services were called to the scene on Woodbourne Crescent at 17.30 this evening.

NI Ambulance Service sent a Rapid Response Paramedic and an emergency crew to the scene to treat the man who had sustained 'stab wounds'.

The victim was treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Mobile phone footage taken following the incident has been circulating on social media.

The extent of his injuries are not yet known at this stage.

Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey paid tribute to local people who acted quickly to assist the victim

The West Belfast MLA said: "I absolutely condemn the stabbing of a teenager in Lenadoon.

"Actions like this have no place in our society particularly at this time when our health service, as well as other frontline statutory agencies and indeed communities are doing what they can to fight against Covid-19.

"I would like to pay tribute to residents and shopkeepers who acted quickly to help the injured party.

"The injured party is now in hospital and I understand from the PSNI that one person has been arrested.

“Anyone with information about this incident should bring it immediately to the PSNI."
