Wes Thomas scores a stunner as Notts County secure Fylde victory in front of huge crowd

Notts County registered back to back wins for the first time this season as the Magpies secured a 2-0 win over AFC Fylde at Meadow Lane.

In front of a crowd of more than 9,000,  a brilliant save from Dan Lavercombe prevented them from taking an early lead when he denied Sam Osborne’s rasping drive.

But it was Wes Thomas who  gave Neal Ardley’s side the lead with a wonderful strike having burst past a challenge before firing into the roof of the net.

Fylde had their moments with Danny Rowe threatening Notts’ goal with long-range efforts and an injury to referee Peter Gibbons meant seven minutes of stoppage time.

The visitors came out fired up  in the second half as they looked for an equaliser, but Connell Rawlinson and Damian McCrory both had excellent games to keep them at bay.

Osborne then drew another fine save from Lavercome while Sam Slocombe had to be alert to deny  Jordan Williams.

Notts had a chance to kill the game off when Kyle Wootton slipped as he latched onto a pass from Sean Shields.

However, it was the brilliant McCrory who made the game safe when he crashed in a header from close range after substitute Pierce Bird had flicked on Regan Booty’s corner.

And that was enough to give Notts a win which was their second in a week after beating Boreham Wood on Tuesday.
