Carabao Cup final weekend is now here and Newcastle United are preparing to face Manchester United at Wembley
The Magpies will be cheered on by thousands of fans as they step into the iconic Wembley grounds for the first time in 24 years. If you'll be joining the Toon Army's journey down to London for the momentous occasion, there are some things you need to know before you go.
Like most large venues, Wembley Stadium has a number of strict rules in place concerning what spectators can bring in to ensure the safety of the crowd. This includes limiting bags to a specific size, as well as having a list of banned items that can be confiscated or even result in fans being turned away if they don't brush up on the rules before they go - here's what you need to know.
Bag policy
Each person who enters Wembley Stadium is only allowed to bring one small bag inside with them. This must be no bigger than A4 size - a height of 297mm (11.7 inches), a width of 210mm (8.27 inches) and a depth of 210mm (8.27 inches) - and this applies to the overall size of the bag, not just how much of it is filled.
All items and bags will be carefully inspected when entering the stadium, which may include the use of an electronic wand or a pat-down. Anyone who is carrying a bag that doesn't fit the size criteria will be refused entry to the stadium, so double-check the measurements of any bag you're planning to bring in to avoid missing out on the match.
The stadium does make exceptions for some things such as medical equipment, but if you need to bring in a larger bag or specific items you must seek permission from the organisers in advance in order to get an exemption certificate for the day. You can do this by getting in touch with the stadium via the online contact form, putting 'Medical Exemption Certificate' as the subject.
What you CAN'T bring in
Here is the full list of items you are forbidden from bringing into the stadium according to the Wembley website:
- Large umbrellas
- Aluminium and glass drink containers, plastic bottles over 500ml
- Alcohol
- Food and drink
- Pushchairs
- Selfie sticks
- Weapons and tools
- Flares, lasers, smoke devices and cannisters
- Professional large-bodied cameras (including cameras that have interchangeable lenses) and recording devices
- Drones
- Unauthorised musical instruments and vuvuzelas
What you CAN bring in
There are some items that are safe to bring into the stadium. These are:
- Small umbrellas
- Clear empty plastic bottles 500ml or less
- Small flags and banners (no bigger than 250cm in size at their widest/longest section)
- Crutches and walking aids
The Wembley Stadium website notes that for non-FA events such as the Carabao Cup final, owners may have their own list of prohibited items which would override the stadium's list. These restrictions will be communicated directly to ticket holders, so make sure you read this list for any additional banned items.
